23 Trends Men Hate...But Do I Care? Nope

The article 23 Trends Guys Hate (But Women Love) on Huffington Post has made the rounds on the Internet recently. The whole article is men criticizing certain trends in women's fashion that men really don't like. The men talking about these trends think these trends are just ugly, and have decided, it seems, to tell women what to wear almost.

The thing about this is that it's all very sexist, this article. Men can't tell me what to wear. Of course, they can have their own opinions; I have my own opinions of what I think looks good on men or what doesn't. But I have never told a man not to wear *whatever* because I think it looks stupid. It's kind of rude and demeaning.

Comments like "Men's business suits...you're a woman, not a man" or "The first thing that came to mind was those horrible giant crotch-pouch pants that I've only ever seen really 'trendy' girls or Japanese guys wear...No matter who is wearing them, I always picture them naked having enormous, cartoon balls, and so needing those special pants to accommodate their grotesque ailment" have some really sexist comments in them. Really, I can't wear a business suit because I'm not a man?

I'm not entirely sure these comments were very well thought out. I don't think men were trying to be demeaning, but they were. When they say something like "oh this option is boring" or "try and spice it up a little" it really drives it home what they're not understanding.

They're not understanding that most women do not dress to impress men.

I don't dress to impress a man. I dress to be comfortable or to impress myself. My best friend dresses to be comfortable or to impress herself. I don't do everything I do for a man. That's making me seem less important. Of course, if a women did want to dress to impress a man, that's her choice. Most women, however, don't want to do that. It's a little ridiculous. I'm just trying to dress to be comfortable. Not to impress some man I've never met.

23 trends Guys Hate. It's a bit more like...we don't really care.

  1. Gah thanks so much for doing this! Those posts drive me insane! Some people don't understand that you shouldn't do things to please other people, just do it to please yourself.
