Something I watched the other day was the newest Disney film, Frozen.. It’s a movie that detailed the story of Elsa and Anna, two sisters, one of which, Elsa, has magical ice powers. Anna once knew about Elsa’s ice powers, but once Elsa had accidentally hurt her, the trolls took Anna’s memory of Elsa’s powers away. After their parents die in a shipwreck, Elsa has to go through a coronation to become the Queen of Arendelle. During the ball, after the coronation, Elsa’s powers come to light after Anna and Prince Hans of the Southern Isles want to get married. Elsa runs away, and thus starts the action of the movie.
Being a Disney movie, it is somewhat a musical. With empowering songs like “Let it Go”, it is a fun, music-filled, family-oriented movie that has such a good message for girls: an act of true love doesn’t have to be true love’s kiss.
[SPOILERS] At the end of the movie, Elsa had accidentally frozen Anna’s heart, so Anna, her new friend Kristoff, and their trusty snowman Olaf are going to take Anna back so Hans can give her true love’s kiss and thaw her rapidly freezing heart. Unfortunately, Hans had been faking her the entire time, and really just wanted the kingdom for herself. Olaf breaks in and finds her, and tells her that Kristoff truly loves her, so they believe Kristoff will be the one to thaw her frozen heart. In the end, Hans is going to kill Elsa, but Anna stops him and freezes after she saves Elsa. Elsa hugs her and begs her to come back, thawing Anna’s frozen heart. It was a story about sibling love, which was stronger than romantic love. It taught girls that they didn’t need the love of a man. They needed themselves, but they also needed their sibling love, because that was more important than true love’s kiss.
This is an important lesson to learn, and for that and many other great reasons, Frozen will remain one of my favorite Disney movies ever.
